Sunflower Day Nursery, Cardiff is located in Brunel House in the heart of Cardiff City Centre.

About Us

Set in Brunel House, Sunflower Day Nursery is a bright, open plan premises. The building itself has numerous large windows which allow lots of natural daylight in, and a large versatile outdoor area. The premises are entirely covered by CCTV and Brunel House provides 24-hour manned security, all with a large multi-storey car park very close by.

The nursery is owned and run by Melanie Pike and David Turner. Melanie, a native Welsh speaker, manages the business and has nearly 20 years experience in the childcare sector and boasts a Level 5 qualification in Children's Care, Learning and Development. The children are at the forefront of Melanie's vision for the business and every care is taken to ensure their needs are put first.

We accept all children and respect each of them as individuals, regardless of gender, race, religion, ability or culture. At Sunflower Day Nursery, we believe that it is vital that all the children who come into our home-from-home environment build a warm relationship with our staff. For this, we have a minimum attendance of 2 full days and 3 half days per week. Our primary language is English, but Welsh is used daily throughout activities.

Quality First

At Sunflower Day Nursery we want our parents to feel confident when leaving their children with us about the quality of care that we provide, and for our parents to not have any concerns for their child's health and welfare. Individuals bring unique skills to the nursery including fluent Welsh speakers, a Makaton (a sign & symbol based language) specialist and designated Additional Learning Needs co-ordinators. Melanie keeps a close eye across all operations in the nursery, and the dedicated staff have a keen interest in developing strong relationships with the children.

Sunflower Day Nursery is registered with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). We offer co-educational, full day care for all children from birth to 8 years. The nursery is open from 7.00am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday throughout the year, with a maximum capacity of 50 children. The nursery will be closed on all public and bank holidays.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Our overall aim is to provide a warm, friendly and stimulating environment that encourages children to flourish. We thrive on offering your little ones fun-filled days of learning through interactive play both indoors and outdoors in our all-weather garden. Our dedicated staff ensure the time your youngsters spend in our nursery are happy, fun and educational. This allows them to build their confidence and self-esteem as well as making lots of new friends.

WRAPAROUND CARE

We provide a wraparound service which includes breakfast, lunch and tea. The service includes drop-off and collection from the following schools:

- Adamsdown Primary School
- Tredegarville C.I.W. Primary School
- St Peters R.C. Primary School
- Albany Primary School
- Roath Park Primary School

We ensure that all schools receive pictures and names of the staff members who collect the children from each school, to ensure the safety of our children is prioritized at all times.
